Ok, how to describe Velvet Kirtan? Beth Filla (The Trolleyvox) sings and plays a harmonium Andrew Chalfen (ITLM, The Trolleyvox) playing Velvet Underground-esque riffs on a baritone electric guitar through a not insignificant amount of delay, and Joseph Traub (Chief Bender) drums. Call and response audience Sanskrit chanting, original trippy, tranced out music a la "All Tomorrow's Parties" and "Waiting for My Man" as played by Hindu gods. Not making that up. That's what it sounds like. VK album out Fall 2014.
The Trolleyvox is a melodic folk rock guitar and vocal harmony band lead by ITLM founder Andrew Chalfen. TVox has 5 albums and is working on a 6th. More Tvox info can be had on Andrew Chalfen's website.
Baby Flamehead c. 1986-91, 2010-11-ish. featured ITLM member Dean Sabatino on drums. One of the pioneer bands wedding acoustic instruments and pop hooks to the punk ethos. Only one album, "Life Sandwich" (1990) along with subsequent hard-to-find recordings. BFH guitarist/songwriter Chris Unrath is currently engineering the 6th album by The Trolleyvox.and mixed ITLM's "Working Blue".
The Wishniaks were a guitar rock band c. 1986-91 which featured ITLM member Andrew Chalfen. Recorded output consists of an ep, 2 albums, scattered singles and compilation tracks, and a video on MTV's 120 Minutes. Expect occasional ephemera and musings here.
In addition to being an integral force within and upon I Think Like Midnight, J. Robert Lennon is a highly lauded author of novels, essays, and very funnty tweets. He teaches creative writing at Cornell U., co-hosts the hilarious and insightful Lunchbox podcast, does the music thing (see above) and most critically, here's photo of him holding a chicken.
